Someone once told me that going to Hanoi means BYOB, which is Bring Your Own Book. You didn’t get a chance to buy a book in your language, let alone a favorite one. The only thing you can read is a guidebook. That might be true in the past but luckily; it’s not the case anymore.
Now there are actually some bookstores that only sell foreign books. Many tourists love reading while they travel, and if you’re one of those, the list below might save the day.
The Bookworm (Source: Internet)
This is one of the first English bookshops in Hanoi. There they sell thousands of books and magazines, both new and used. And they take order to get books from other countries if you couldn’t find your books. They also pay for your old books that you don’t need anymore. So put this into your pocket list when you travel or stay in Hanoi.
The Bookworm is located on the HCC café courtyard and is now a bookshop and book-café. They open every day from 9 am to 7 pm and close for important holidays such as Christmas and Tet. All the staffs speak English so you don’t have to worry about your request being not understood.
Even though there are some reviews saying that the price is too high and the space is too small for a multi-purpose place: a bookshop, a café and a restaurant, it’s still worth trying.

Xunhasaba in Hanoi (Source: Internet)
Xunhasaba is known to be Hanoi's longtime source of English language reading material. Their sources are various. There is always something for you: novel, fiction, cooking book, reference book for study foreign language (Thai, India, Malaysia, French, German …) and science books. The price is another plus point, it’s reasonable and stable. The opening time seems to be a little unpredictable, though we're probably all used to that.

Infostone Bookshop (Source: Internet)
This is an interesting little bookshop that specializes in technical non-fiction and trade journals.Infostones has a wide selection of non-fictions that are not usually found in Hanoi. Books are displayed randomly with no sense of order or logic. There really is no particular reference system so it’s down to your luck to find a book you like. There is a lot of coffee table books in design and art, and some special souvenirs.

Library Francais in Hanoi (Source: Internet)
It’s a lovely small library that sells varied kinds of French books in Hanoi. The library has some big choices of french novels from big authors like Marc Levy or Musso. There are also some books for children and cuisine books. They don’t have many books about science or reference books. However, you can order some books even in German, Spanish and Italian.
