Vietnam welcomes over 12 million foreign visitors in Jan-Oct.
In the first ten months of 2018, increases were recorded in the numbers of tourists from most markets, particularly South Korea (48.3%), Finland (33.3%), China’s Hong Kong (29.6%), mainland China (28.8%), Denmark (16.4%), China’s Taiwan (14.8%), Sweden (13.7%), Italy (13.6%), Philippines (13.4%) and Malaysia (12.6%). Although Africa is not a major market, the number of arrivals from this continent has risen by 19.7%.
According to the VNAT, domestic visitors totaled 67.9 million between January and October. Vietnam’s revenue from travel services in the first ten months of 2018 is estimated at VND505 trillion (US$21.7 billion), an 20.9% from the same period last year.
Vietnam aims to attract 15 – 16 million foreign arrivals in 2018, the VNAT General Director Nguyen Van Tuan noted, adding that the fourth quarter of 2018 is a peak season for foreign holidaymakers, so if the current growth rate is sustained and there aren’t any sudden upheavals, Vietnam will welcome at least 15.7 million foreign visitors this year.
To attract more foreigners in the coming months, the VNAT has organized a tourism promotion program in Nanning and Shenzhen cities of China from October 22 to 27. In the national tourism development strategy until 2020, China is considered a key source of tourists. It has continually ranked first among sources of foreign travelers to the Southeast Asian nation, accounting for 38% of total foreigners visiting here.
Earlier, the VNAT also coordinated with the Vietnam Television, Viettel Group, Vietnam's largest mobile network operator, and Nam Viet Communication Technology Development and Investment JSC to launch a smart tourism portal with name “VTV Travel” at www.dulich.vtv.vn. With VTV Travel, the people who love traveling will have another option for information on destinations to discover.
